Jack Lalanne ( September 26, 1914 – January 23, 2011) was the pioneer of the modern fitness movement that just passed and his legacy will be felt forever. Catastrophic rains have hit home to many important figures in mixed martial arts and combat sports. They have all been impacted by these tragic floods. They have lost loved ones, friends, and most of their hometown to the mudslides that have ravaged this area of Brazil. Hundreds of people have died and are homeless.
It is a daily battle for survival in an area where the poor live in shacks built into hills. A month’s worth of rain fell in one day, turning the ground into mud, and costing thousands their lives, homes, and belongings. These people’s homes and belongings are now being washed away. Combat Athletes for Nova Friburgo is asking fans of MMA and their network of friends to donate whatever they can to help save lives impacted by one of Brazil’s most deadly natural disaster.

Congratulations to Junior for his impressive UFC debut win over Mike Lullo! Junior came out and looked extremely sharp with the punches and had a great brawl and sprawl strategy. In the first round, Junior began the barrage of leg kicks, which continued throughout the fight. However, Edson also landed some serious punches. The fight found its way to the ground a few times in the fight with Junior in Lullo’s Guard as Lullo worked the mission control position and looked for Gogoplata. However Junior played safe, relaxed, worked his technique and countered the position on all three occasions. He then got the fight back to the feet where he continued to inflict serious damage. Other than these three instance, the fight was pretty much a leg kick and Muay Thai clinic from Junior.

Junior showed incredible speed and accuracy with some of his punching flurries. His striking was reminiscent of Wanderlei Silva in the old days, but much faster and with better form and accuracy. Junior also showed some incredible upper cut counters which really gave a lot of credit to Lullo’s chin for not going down earlier. Junior finally finished the fight early in round three as a barrage of leg kicks left Lullo unable to walk and continue with the fight.

This incredible win was talked about later by Dana White in an interview that compared Junior’s performance to Jose Aldo. Dana categorized Junior as a new emerging star in MMA.
